The company Pavegen has launched a commercial smart-floor solution. The technology has evolved from a singular tile to full-flooring solutions. The smart floor generates electricity from footsteps to an entire array with three multi-functional component parts. These functionalities include data collection, floor style and finish, and energy collection.

The technology, when integrated into a commercial building provides tracking of footsteps. The design provides the ability to predict peak timings and prime locations, as well as monitoring directional flow to provide a comprehensive analysis of movement patterns. Consumer behavior can be understood by measuring footfall intensity and identifying the number of people walking within a certain area.
The smart floor is finished using a commercial vinyl as a top surface. This finish provides a slip-resistant surface during its entire life cycle.
Smart lighting accompanies this floor as the company has created a bespoke high-spec LED matrix. Designed exclusively for Pavegen with 95% efficient drivers, Pavegen creates responsive lighting solutions powered entirely through visitor footfall lighting a visitor’s path while they walk. This power system can improve safety, off-grid wayfinding signage, and power a variety of electronic advertisement campaigns when individuals come close.
