S. Dilawri Automotive Group recently undertook the new venture of constructing and opening a four-dealership auto mall. The equipment used for this venture included four large-size caterpillar crawler hydraulic excavators and two dozers, and all told moved a total of 20,000 to 25,000 cubic meters of material. What made this project processes move smoothly was the innovative software included in the excavators and bulldozers.

The excavators and bulldozers were both equipped with their own Topcon systems, specifically Topcon X-53i and Topcon 3D-MC² respectively. The former of the two systems helped the excavator serve a more versatile purpose, and the latter, considered twice as fast as any other available systems, provided vastly improved dozing speed. Burrows-Rab, when reviewing the two systems, said: “The Topcon Systems helped us achieve grade on this challenging site and saved us a tremendous amount of time”. Rabb construction is convinced that their return on investment, in the Topcon systems, will outweigh their initial capital investment.

The Topcon system is a slim device added to excavators, that provides operators with a modern 3D system tool that permits excavating complex terrain, almost blindly. In real-time, the program tracks all movements and delivers information to the operator right away.

The purpose of the Topcon software and hardware excavator add-on is to allow workers more flexibility to work independently as the software detects centerlines and guides the bucket. It is a great tool for those searching to keep their schedules on track and streamline their tasks.
