AI coming to Komatsu
Komatsu has partnered with graphics processing unit manufacturer NVIDIA for the purpose of incorporating artificial intelligence into the company’s construction equipment.
NVIDIA will focus on providing a visualization and analysis of entire construction zones so as to improve productivity and safety on construction sites. NVIDIA will utilize a combination of surround cameras, drone imagery and real-time video analytics, all powered by the Jetson AI platform that will be installed in all of the site’s heavy equipment.
This equipment will allow the equipment to perceive their surroundings and be continuously alert which will help the operators of the equipment be more efficient. The 3D visualizations of the construction sites will allow analysts to view the real-time interaction of people, machinery, and objects which will ensure that costly onsite equipment will always be used at its optimal efficiency. The machines will also be equipped with stereo cameras in their cabins to help assess rapidly changing conditions in real time, and allow appropriate instructions to be relayed to the driver instantaneously.
