"The construction industry is ripe for technology — tools to be connected, tasks for robots, measurements to be remembered by machines, not humans." Velocity Robotics was the winner of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition of AlphaLab Gear’s hardware cup due to its innovative new saw accessory.

The company designed the Autoset accessory, which users can attach to a miter saw bench and it will then feed digital measurements to a stopper. This stopper indicates which way it must be moved to achieve the exact measurements, and is then able to adjust. "Autoset works by taking measurements from either Bluetooth connected tape measures or laser distance meters and feeding them into a stopper bolted to a miter saw bench. The stopper indicates which way it needs to be moved to get close to the measurement and then automatically adjusts to the precise measurement. Contractors can load in multiple measurements, leaving the job of remembering how long to cut a board to the machines."

Company officials state that currently, the product is accurate up to one-sixty-fourth of an inch, but an upgrade that will push that accuracy to one-one-thousandth of an inch is in development. Users are able to feed the Autoset accessory with several sets of measurements into the stopper, which effectively eliminates the need for crews to make mental notes or jot down those measurements themselves. This increased efficiency is nothing to scoff at, as the company officials project that it will save contractors up to three days on a five to six-week schedule. Velocity Robotics predicts that the product will be ready for the market in approximately one year at the target price of $499.
