VisionVest is the name of the company behind a new and innovative safety vest design that is refreshingly understanding of the fact that getting construction workers to put on an unfamiliar piece of equipment is an uphill battle. As it stands, the construction industry is responsible for the most workplace injuries out of all industries in Canada. In an effort to prompt change, and make it as seamless as possible, VisionVest has released a safety vest that makes workers more visible and safe, whilst at the same time incorporating quality of life enhancements that will make construction workers want to make the change. VisionVest’s appeal lies in its unique vest design, which is enhanced by features such as LED-lighting, GPS location tracking as well as portable phone charging! The vest itself is able to power these functions through an integrated battery pack incorporated into its design, to power its ribbon-style LED lights.

The vest will experience its first field experience soon but without the GPS component. VisionVest foresees that the GPS tracking will eventually be used to allow project managers to track workers’ hours and locations; this means that managers will be able to know at a glance just how many workers are on site, and how many individuals of each trade are in a geo-fenced area, to give managers a sense of what is going on in the workplace. This safety vest appears to be the next step for both increasing worker safety for Canada’s construction workers, and also a useful tool to bolster workplace efficiency and progress tracking efforts.
